The actress posted footage of the crash on her Instagram page, describing the circumstances as ‘negligent to the point of criminality’ though without ‘malicious intent’.

Speaking to Deadline after the clip was made public, Tarantino admitted that the driving conditions weren’t safe and that Thurman had a “right to blame [him]”, but he denied being “angry”.

“I start hearing from the production manager, Bennett Walsh, that Uma is trepidatious about doing the driving shot,” the director told the publication.

“I’m sure when it was brought up to me, that I rolled my eyes and was irritated. But I’m sure I wasn’t in a rage and I wasn’t livid. I didn’t go barging into Uma’s trailer, screaming at her to get into the car.”

He continued: “Me and Uma had our issues about the crash. She blamed me for the crash and she had a right to blame me for the crash.

“I didn’t mean to do it. I talked her into getting in the car, I assured her the road was safe. And it wasn’t.

“The car might even have been dubious too even if I didn’t know that then. We had our issues about it.”

Thurman made the claims in an interview with the New York Times in which she also levelled accusations of sexual assault against the disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.

Actresses who have spoken out on Weinstein

Tarantino also discussed Thurman’s allegations against Weinstein, confirming she told him about them on the set of Kill Bill, and asked the producer to apologise.

“While we were getting ready to do Kill Bill, Uma tells me that he had done the same thing to her,”

“My confrontation [with Weinstein] was saying, you have to go to Uma. This happened. You have to apologize to her and she has to accept your apology, if we’re going to do Kill Bill together.”

Weinstein has admitted to propositioning Thuman but denies all accusations of sexual misconduct made against him.

A spokesperson said: “There was no physical contact during Mr. Weinstein’s awkward pass and Mr. Weinstein is saddened and puzzled as to ‘why’ Ms. Thurman, someone he considers a colleague and a friend, waited 25 years to make these allegations public, noting that he and Ms. Thurman have shared a very close and mutually beneficial working relationship where they have made several very successful film projects together.”

“This is the first time we are hearing that she considered Mr. Weinstein an enemy and the pictures of their history tell a completely different story.”
